Early Signs of Pregnancy

Early Signs of Pregnancy

You are a few days late on your period and the question is looming in your mind. "Am I pregnant?" Whether the question comes as a delightful surprise or an awaited expectancy, you want to know the truth. Will you be delivering a precious bundle of joy within the next nine months? Learning the early signs of pregnancy can help put your mind at ease until you can schedule an appointment with your doctor to confirm whether or not you are pregnant.

What are the signs?

The early signs symptoms of pregnancy vary among women. Some will have every symptom in the book while others may only have a few. The following is a check list of the most common signs of pregnancy among women.

  • Fatigue - Feeling overly tired during the day is one of the first signs that you are pregnant. You may be noticeably tired, feel like you haven't slept, and have an increased desire to take naps.
  • Morning Sickness – Is your stomach queasy when you wake up in the morning? Many women feel nauseous when they first wake up. Keep in mind that morning sickness can occur any time of the day.
  • Breast Tenderness – Another early sign of pregnancy is having tender, swollen breast. Your breast may be noticeably larger and tender to the touch.
  • Abdominal cramping – You may feel abdominal cramping similar to how you feel when you are beginning your monthly period. Do not be alarmed by these cramps. It is a natural part of pregnancy. "Spotting" may also occur along with abdominal cramping.
  • Missed period – The most common sign of pregnancy among women is a missed period. This is usually the sign that signals the alarms for the pregnancy. However, it is not uncommon for women to have a period and be pregnant so do not depend solely on this sign to determine if you are, in fact, pregnant.
  • Skin changes – Some women experience changes in their skin early during pregnancy. The skin may become dry and scaly. Areas such as the face and back may break out.

The signs and symptoms listed above are a few of the most common symptoms associated with early pregnancy. If you are experiencing one or a few, consider buying a pregnancy test from your local drug store to further put your mind at ease. The test, coupled with the check list above, can put you on the road to discovering whether or not you are pregnant.
