Irregular Periods and Pregnancy

A lot of women may have experienced irregular periods in their whole menstrual life. Missed periods, late periods, early periods have been experienced by most women. Some women even have discomforts during their period. They sometimes feel pain (dysmenorrhoea) when they have their period. Having your menstrual period can sometimes be a bother because you can't freely move and you often have to think about stains in your clothes.

What is an Irregular Period?

Irregular period refers to cycles that come in less than 21 days or more than 32 days. You need to keep track of your monthly periods so that you can determine if you have an irregular period. If your cycle is within the time frame, that's not a guarantee that you have a regular period. For example if you have a gap of 22 days in one month and then you have a cycle in another 30 days then that's not regular. The days should only vary from 2 to 3 days.

Can You Get Pregnant if You Have Irregular Periods?

Women with irregular periods often worry if they can get pregnant on their own. The answer to the question is yes. It is possible to get pregnant naturally even if you have an irregular period. The first thing you need to do is to consult your gynaecologist. You need to get checked if you have an irregular cycle. This also goes for all women who have irregular menstrual cycles.

A lot of couples wait for at least one year before consulting a doctor. If you have an irregular period, you shouldn't that long. You need to consult a doctor as soon as you can. Your gynaecologist will run some blood tests on you. The doctor will check if you are ovulating or not. If the test comes out that you are ovulating then you can keep trying the natural way as long as your age isn't above 35 years old.

If you are not ovulating, then your doctor might refer you to a fertility specialist. The specialist can give you fertility medications to help boost your ovulation. A lot of women have had help from fertility doctors. You need to be honest with your problem and learn to deal with it. Doesn't loose hope as a lot of women get pregnant with the help of medications. Some even had multiple births due to the fertility medications. Seek help for your fertility problems as soon as possible.
